Many of our customers have been asking us to add a geofence feature that will prevent employees from clocking in or out if they are not within a certain radius of a job site. This feature will save our customers hours spent reviewing each clock in and out time to verify employees are at the correct location. To take advantage of this new feature, you must be on the Standard or Premium subscription plan.
Here is how it works:
1. Sign into our website, click the Account button, go to Account details, and check the option “Restrict clock in/out location.” Here you can specify how many meters you will allow the employee to clock in/out from. The default radius is 100 meters. This radius will be placed around the job location so employees cannot clock in or out if they are outside that radius.
If you use our apps, you will find this option under the settings screen. Make sure you have the latest app version installed:
2. Go back to the dashboard and add or pick a job. You’ll see a box where you can enter an address:
Type in an address and you should see the map gets updated.
If you are using our apps, then you will see the new add location feature when you add or select a job.
After you enter an address, you should see a map like this with a radius circle around the job location. The width of the radius is determined by how many meters you entered in the option. In this case, it was 100 meters.
When the employee tries to clock in/out and selects the job (in this case job name “B-Job”) and their GPS is outside the radius, then they will be blocked and see this message:
NOTE: Please make sure your employees have the latest version of the apps to get this feature. Also, if the job does not have an address then employees will not be blocked from clocking in/out.
If they click the Show Details button, then a map will come up showing their current location and the location of the job. As you can see from the screen below, the employee’s current location is outside the radius of 100 meters from the job location.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Sometimes an employee may have an old phone or be in a location where the GPS’s accuracy is low or a remote area with no GPS. This employee will not be able to clock in/out if you have this option turned on. So you will need to clock them in/out or have a manager do it.
